The High Tatras Mountain – Nationalpark, Slovakia’s symbol – offer shelter and asylum to all those who seek calm and refuge for their souls… Their inimitable ambience and majesty absorb man in his entirety. High Tatras is the highest part of the Carphatians with its peaks ranging up to 2665m/8743 feet and counts to the smallest mountain range with alpine character in world. Background of beautiful scenery opens a door for you and invites you to take part in some ascents to the most beautiful peaks of the Tatras.

 

From June to October we are offering these trips at the moment:

Note, that both options (1. and 2.) can be run at the same time. Part of the group can go the intermediate trip and part the difficult one and meet at the same hut in the evening 🙂

1. Crossing the High Tatras Mountain Nationalpark hut to hut

(intermediate to difficult)

This tour is for people that are used to hiking and here and then experience steeper terrain. On this trek we will be walking through forests and mountains, where except chamois and other species bears and wolves live, where the Sherpa’s still provide the huts themselves, where the soul relaxes by the sound of water and trees. The most famous hike in Slovakia, panorama of the smallest of the alpine mountain range in the world – the High Tatras National Park. This path leads from the east of the mountain –  to the west, with climbing some of the peaks on the way, and ends with climbing the highest mountain of the High Tatras and the Carpathian mountain range – The Gerlach peak 2665m/8743 feet above sealevel. Valleys once shaped by glaciers, saddles and crystal clear lakes, with rich flora and fauna to the highest and most beautiful peaks with breath taking views. An unforgettable experience in the fairy land ! No climbing experience necessary. Steep areas are secured with chains.

Level of difficulty: intermediate to difficult, no climbing experience necessary

Duration:  5 Days of hiking

 Accommodation: in mountain huts.

Walking per day: 4 – 8 hours, only on the day when climbing the highest mountain Gerlach it might take up to 10 hours

Water: Every day fresh drinking water in huts or sources

Meals will be provided: Breakfast, lunch, dinner (drinks at own expense in the huts – snaps, beer, wine very good 😉

Swimming: shower almost every Day, in between wild hygiene (waterfall, stream, lake ;-))

No sleeping bag required, blankets in each cottage available.

Itinerary:

Day 1  – Arrival of the group in the provided accomodation, meeting and presentation of the program with your guide, pick up from the airport and drive to the airport is possible.

Day 2 – In the morning transfer  (20km/13 miles) to the valley where the Trek starts. We will start the day with a pleasant easy hike through the forest and follow a crystal clear stream that runs from the green lake where our first lodge is. Once arriving at the lodge that is surrounded by the amasing view of the Tatra peaks there is an option of climbing a peak that is in altitude of 2230m/7316 feet, or just stay at the hut and relax (it takes 3 hours hike to the first mountain lodge and 9 hours in case we would climb the peak). Shower in the lodge. Without climbing the peak we will ascent 640metres/2100 feet on the first day. With climbing the peak its 1330m/4363 feet ascent, 680m/2230 descent.

Day 3 – Today we start the hike by going over  a saddleback  that is in the altitude of 2030m/6660 feet where we will have a beautiful view of the green lake that we left behind this morning, the valley and the peaks. We will be passing a short steep section with the help of chains.  We can make lunch on a peak that is just few minutes over the saddleback in 2040m/6700 feet altitude. 4-5 hours tour to the next lodge hidden in a beautiful forest where foxes and bears might give us good night 😉 On this day the ascent is 487m/1597 feet , descent 563m/1847 feet.

Day 4 – We will start our hike in a former glacier valley with lots of  mountain pine, and on the way we will pass a hut where we can stop for coffee or snaps. Later passing five mountain lakes and wandering into a high saddleback, from where we can admire a view of the Low Tatras National Park. In the steep rise into the saddleback that is in altitude of 2352m/7716 feet above the sealevel we have to use the help of few chains. From the saddle we will be descending into the next beautiful valley where our lodge is awaiting  in 2000m/6561 feet. Ascent  today is 877m/2877 feet, descent 352m/1154 feet, 5 – 6 hours. Possibility of evening hike to the lakes, overnight in the lodge (no shower, but lake bath possible 🙂

Day 5 – This morning we will start by going over a saddle in altitude of 2290m/7513 feet, we can climb a peak  2429m/7969 feet,  from where we will have a  360 ° wonderful view. Steep trail is secured with chains. On our way down we can shower in the waterfall and feeling fresh we walk further down to the  mountainhotel where a luxury SPA is waiting for us. Todays ascent is 580m/1902 feet, 860m/2821 feet descent, 5 – 6 hours.

Day 6 – If the weather allows us today we will climb the highest peak of the High Tatras – its also the highest of the Carpathian Mountain range. The Gerlach peak with its 2665m/8743feet, from the mountainhotel its 1000m/3280 feet ascent, and the same descent, here we will need a helmet and a harness (but can be also provided by the mountainguide), the climb is with a professional mountain guide.  This project opens at the same time the possibility of a day of rest for those who do not want to climb the peak, as we pass the same mountainhotel on our way down. However, it is recommended to climb the peak, as this is the highlight of the trek 🙂

Tonight we stay in a mountain guesthouse in the National park, possibility of grilling and party ! Luxury lodge with indoor and outdoor fireplace and showers.

Day 7 –  According to wishes of the group and weather conditions there is a possibility of visiting a sight (for example cave or castle) or just do some shopping and have a coffee 🙂

This is the easier version of the first trip above, that means less steep areas and less elevation, but just as beautiful !

Recommended also for little experienced hikers – but some hiking experience is recommended.

You might wanna know that Flora of the High Tatras includes: the Endemic Tatra scurvy-grass (Cochlearia tatrae), yellow montain saxifrage (Saxifraga aizoides), Norway spruce (Picea abies), Swiss pine (Pinus cembra), and European larch (Larix decidua).

Day 4 – This morning we can start by having the breakfast on the teracce and we will start by going down for a change 😉 passing few beautiful waterfalls on the way. We can also visit a cute little hut where there is a small museum of the Sherpas that have been building the huts for centuries and providing them with goods. This is still done in the present, the idea is to keep the tradition and its also ekological, the helipocters are only used for rescue. Most of the hike today will lead through a nice forest, but we will still be having a nice view of the mountain. Descent 190m/623 feet, acent 385m/1263 feet, 4-5 hours hiking. Night in a mountainhotel with a luxury SPA, the highest WELLNESS in Slovakia, where you can relax, have a massage or glas on wine in a warm pool. This place shows us a beautiful view of the highest mountain of the High Tatras.

Day 5 – Loong Breakfast 😉 You can start the day with a bath in the lake…:-) We can chill a little this morning and start the hike by traversing on the path under the highest mountain. We can eat our lunch in the wilderness by a crystalclear mountainlake with its nice waterfall. Time to chill here as well and breath in the beauty of this place. We continue by traversing under two other mountains and descending on a zick zag path down the our next lodge, all the time great view of another lake in which direct vicinity we will spend the  night. Todays ascent is 296m/971 feet, descent 472m/1548 feet, 5-6 hours hike.

Day 6 – Today we have two options: those who are tired can stay in the lodge and relax by the lake, and those who would like to hike can join a wonderful tour to the biggest mountain lake of the High Tatras and according to the weather and mood of the group we can even continue to a peak above the lake with an amasing view over many valleys and even the polish Tatras. It takes 6-8hours up to the peak, ascent is 863m/283 feet, descent 1016m/3333 feet. For those who stay at the lodge it takes 2 hours to go down in the afternoon with the rest of the group and the descent is 147m/482 feet. Good bye dinner in a traditional restaurant with very good slovakian food and drinks ! 😉

    It was this time last year we’ve conquered Tatra mountains together.
    I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you again for the amazing tour and the amazing memories I now have.
